Class Actions/Mass Torts
Sometimes big companies do things that cause harm to many people.
It is often difficult for one person to fight against a big company alone.
It is for this reason that class action legislation was created. A class action is a claim that is brought by one representative plaintiff on the behalf of a large group (i.e. the class) of people who have all suffered similar injury or loss as a result of the action or inaction of a company.
The pooling of resources and sharing of cost that occurs levels the playing field and makes it possible for people to stand up against big companies that have caused them harm.
Ledroit Beckett has acted for these types of groups of people. We were class counsel for the passengers on a train that derailed and negotiated a settlement on their behalf. We, currently, are acting for a large number of victims of Father Charles Sylvester who abused more than 50 women while he was a priest with the Diocese of London. See NEWS & RESOURCES for more information about the Sylvester claims.
